Owl pellets

Did you know that owls eat their prey whole, digest most of it and spit out a pellet with the non digestable parts, fur, bones and feathers. So
Here we are picking the pellets apart to find mouse, vole and bird bones..

We found pelvises, femurs, shoulder blades, skulls, and ribs. On Thursday we each hope to reconstruct a small rodent skeleton. Spelled it right this time:-)

Guided reading with Ms. Schnetzler

We practiced Leo Lionni books and read them to each other. He has such great teachings in his books.

Owls have feathers that help them fly silently

There are over 200 species of owls

Our visiting owl was a spectacled owl from South America, but raised in Ontario

Our visitor, Inspector is free to fly every night at his home in Duncan

Inspector pays us a visit

We have a bit of an owl theme evolving in our classroom and Mannix's family was instrumental in having 'Inspector' pay our class and our buddy class, Mrs Batista's,a visit.

Mindy, his trainer and companion taught us so many things about owls in general and Inspector in particular.

Lucky Mannix!

And a few more owl and group shots:

You might like to look up facts on the spectacled owl with your child..

A very wet day at the garden

But all boots stayed on the feet!

First we learned to plant garlic,

Then we raked leaves to make soil,

And finally we actually planted the garlic!
