Nancy brought in her father, Donald, his partner AJ, aka - Alison, and her in-laws, Karen and Jim. Her father, a retired teacher and principal still knows how to wag his finger in a teacherly way!

Caitlyn teaches us about buoyancy

Wow! Caitlin enlightened us about the differences between buoyancy in salt water and fresh water by showing how an egg floated or sank, depending on the saltiness of the water. I was so impressed with her confidence, her clarity if speech and her responsiveness to the other students' comments and questions. Thanks to Rudy for the photos!

Alex teaches us

Alex taught us how to make a perfect duplicate the old fashioned way, as if he was using carbon paper. Maybe some of you have never even seen carbon paper! 

First he drew half his Grinch, then he coloured on the backside of his lines with pencil.

Then he retraced the lines on the front side and the pencil on the backside 'printed' his lines. 

That's the back where he rubbed the pencil over the lines and 

Voila!!

Rx for the next two weeks

The Jingle Mingle was fantastic. Thanks to all who donated time and energy to this mega annual fundraiser.  A whole lot of baking went down the hatches of participants young and old, and the delight on kids' faces when they emerged from the Jingle Shop with wrapped loot was priceless.  

In my 20 years of teaching, the two weeks before the winter break are the best of times and the worst of times. The school has a warm, festive feel, and most people are abuzz with anticipation of upcoming concerts.  However, energy peaks and plummets with Xmas candy and baking consumption. Sleep routines become unhinged. So, for everyone's sake, let's all follow the directive of "less is more". 

Unless it's vegetables and naps. :)

Mrs. Martin's amazing generosity

When our principal asked parents to pay for concert tickets with a new or unused gift, she had no idea how successful she would be. The picture below shows less than half the toys collected. Family services

and the Christmas Bureau has never had such a magnificent donation.

We all love a sunny sky, but boy it was cold on Friday afternoon.  We made it to Boulevard Park on our community walk, and then the instinct to play took over. And then the instinct to get warm took over that, so we headed back to school. But in those few blocks, the kids made so many observations about the people, places, services, and utilities that make a community.  I was really impressed at how much they noticed -- taxis, power poles, moving trucks, buses, and more. 

"Hang on, I have another thing to write!"
